Tampering With The Mrp Is A Serious Offence
As per the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011 has notified MRP Hike, MRP Tampering, Missing MRP as an offence punishable with fine and also with imprisonment. However, if any default or discrepancy is noticed, the seller is liable for suitable action in terms of suspension and/or penalty from Paytm. Grounds for penalization could include:
Tampering with the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) label of the product
Using outdated packages
Making false representation as to price, date and quality
Tampering with any packaging as mandated by Legal Metrology Act.
So at all costs, tampering with the MRP of a product should be avoided.
